Novena to St. Josemaria Escriva: Day 1 – Divine Filiation

Novena to St. Josemaria Escriva | 2020
June 17 – 25, 2020

As we pray for the intercession of St. Josemaria, our novena this year guides us to reflect on and follow his lifelong example “to hide and disappear…for Jesus alone to shine”. Each day of the novena includes excerpts for reflection from Scripture and the writings of St. Josemaria Escriva followed by the daily prayer for the intercession of St. Josemaria Escriva.

DAY ONE

“See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God.”
1 John 3:1

REFLECTION

Divine Filiation: “…My life has led me to realize in a special way that I am a son of God and I have experienced the joy of getting inside the heart of my Father, to rectify, to purify myself, to serve him, to understand others and find excuses for them, on the strength of his love and my own lowliness. This is why I want to insist now that you and I need to be made anew, we need to wake up from the slumber of feebleness by which we are so easily lulled and to become aware once again, in a deeper and more immediate way, of our condition as children of God.”

PRAYER FOR THE INTERCESSION OF SAINT JOSEMARIA

O God, through the mediation of Mary our Mother, you granted your priest Saint Josemaria countless graces, choosing him as a most faithful instrument to found Opus Dei, a way of sanctification in daily work and in the fulfillment of the Christian’s ordinary duties.

Grant that I too may learn to turn all the circumstances and events of my life into occasions of loving you and serving the Church, the Pope and all souls with joy and simplicity, lighting up the pathways of this earth with faith and love.

Deign to grant me, through the intercession of Saint Josemaria, the favor of… (make your request). Amen.

CONCLUDING PRAYERS

Glory be to the Father…
